Scouts Benefit from Rotary Contribution

The 1^st Lymington and Pennington Scout Troop received a welcome boost to their funds after patrol leader Ross Croucher (aged 12 years) wrote to Lymington Rotary Club requesting a help of financial assistance, especially as the Scout’s income from their stall at the November firework display was considerably less than in previous years.

Club President, Larry Anthony, praised Ross for his initiative and also the entire Scout Troop for their contribution to the community, and at a recent Scout meeting presented the Troop with a cheque for £200. Larry added that the cheque was the latest in a series of payments from the recent Rotary Club’s Santa Wagon collection for local charities and organisations.

In reply, Ross thanked the Rotarians and explained that the money would enable them to purchase camp cookers for each patrol.

Way Ahead Members Invested on Isle of Wight Challenge

The Way Ahead Explorers were challenged to walk and navigate their way across the Isle of Wight and were Tobes, Jake and Pauline were invested into the Unit!

The Way Ahead Explorer unit are now meeting every Thursday… so far this term we have made our own meths cookers and had a cooking compeition… Well Done Jack!

Duchess of Cambridge joins the Scouts – can you?

As we welcome the announcement that the Duchess of Cambridge will join Scouting as a volunteer, we hear how chief scout Bear Grylls and other volunteers contribute fun, challenge and everyday adventure to 400,000 girls and boys around the UK.

The Duchess joins 100,000 other adult volunteers, many of whom volunteer their time on a flexible basis. Scouting is in need of more adult volunteers, with over 33,500 young people currently waiting to join.

Scouting offers activities from abseiling and archery to drama, street sports and water zorbing. Scouting helps 6-25 year olds grow in confidence, achieve their full potential and become active citizens in their communities.

There is a module A training in January 2012… So it is worth a look…

The Way Ahead Cooks on Beer!

The second meeting of the Way Ahead Explorers was a great success.

We went out to the New Forest, joined by some really friendly Shetland ponies and cooked upindividual delicious meals using basic ingredients and a beer can cooker!

We are going to be making our own cookers at the beginning of January – in one of our first weekly meetings, so that we can use them again and again!

Next meeting – 1st Friday in December, dress warm we are out in the Forest again, and will be doing an activity that one of the new Explorers have requested but in an uninspected manner…. want to find out more…. email us to come along – TheWayAheadExplorers@gmail.com

Explorers – the Adventure Continues…

The first meeting of the Relaunched “Way Ahead Explorers” took place on Friday 7th October, a great start with the prospective members map reading in the dark, making fire with a sparker and enjoying a Hot Chocolate and time to chill….

Plans and Ideas were discussed for future meetings…. and everyone was very keen for the next meeting…
